Should Porn be Banned on Google Glass?

Should Porn be Banned on Google Glass?

If you have been reading the latest news on Google Glass you probably already know Google has banned porn from its service, by changing its Glass Platform Developer Policies to prohibit apps that contain sexually explicit content.

Porn producers and distributors have always sought out the latest media advances to expand their products reach, from statues in ancient times to paintings in the Middle Ages, to books in the era of the printed word, and eventually to motion pictures and the internet.

With Google Glass making it possible to wear a small computer on your head as glasses, it seemed like a logical next step for the porn industry. A company called MiKandi had developed an app that it called Tits & Glass, and got almost 10,000 unique visitors a day before Google stepped in and banned the app.

Personally, I think it’s a bad idea to wear a computer as glasses, and thus take the internet with you as you walk around. A pedestrian should be able to see, and to pay attention to, what’s on the outside of his glasses, not on the inside. Having a computer screen, and whatever is on that screen, over your eye is enough of a distraction to have you not seeing things you should see, and could be as bad for a pedestrian as texting is for a driver. To have whatever is on that screen be porn is not going to help matters. I wouldn’t buy Google Glass if it was cheaper than a magazine subscription. Along the same lines, there have been incidents of motorists passing private buses with TV screens showing pornographic films, getting distracted, and having accidents.

We have been discussing this today on Comunitee, get in on the conversation: Porn Is Now Banned on Google Glass
